Having a baby is a time when you are going to be practically delirious with excitement. There is going to be a lot to do when you want to prepare for your baby’s arrival, and part of this preparation is going to be getting the nursery set up.
There are so many great options to choose from! Decorating doesn’t need to be an expensive ordeal, and with just some time and some diligence, you’ll find that you can decorate your baby’s nursery beautifully without wasting money on frivolities.
Let’s get started! The first, and perhaps hardest part is to set a budget. Before you set anything in stone, make sure that you head to the stores to see what an average price is. Make sure that you have an idea what it might cost to outfit a basic nursery and make sure that anyone who is contributing money to this endeavor has a say.
Look at both high end items and basic items, and you’ll have a realistic place to start from when you are looking at getting started with your budget. Make a list of items that you cannot do without and then make a list of things that you just want. There are some items below, but don’t be afraid to add your own; everyone is different!
Must Have Nursery Items:
- Crib or bassinet for the baby to sleep in.
- Three or more sets of baby bedding. Look for bedding that is soft, comfortable and matches the nursery theme.
- A place to change your baby’s diaper while keeping them safe and comfortable.
- A rocking chair. A rocking chair can help you put your baby to sleep and it will give you a comfy place to sit on long nights.
- Grooming Items. Babies need a lot of grooming so you will need to have things like nail clippers, brush, baby powder, and cotton balls to name a few.
- Diaper bag. A diaper bag is something that you are going to need if you are going to be on the go with your baby at all. Keep it stocked with lots of diapers.
- Several lamps. You will need different lamps for different purposes, from night lights to task light, to lights that can be dimmed and more.
If your budget allows you can add to this list. If you are on a limited budget, however, you may consider purchasing some items used. The best items to purchase used are the furniture for your nursery, like the crib, dresser, play table and chairs.
